“America is my country, and Paris is my home town.”

Gertrude Stein is the one who wrote those words, but she is certainly not the only American writer to have felt that way.

And although it is not the only place in the world that has attracted more than its fair share of artists over the centuries, both the strength and the persistence of its appeal invites the question: “Why Paris?”

We’ll be exploring this question, and some of the reasons Paris has been and continues to be for so many writers (not just Americans) truly a “City of Light.”
